Day 9

A photo of the person who has gotten you through the most. This is my mom. Isn't she beautiful? She has been there for me through everything. She came to my house (20 minutes away) every day for 4 months when my babies were born. Every day. So that I wouldn't be alone.

A mini Nathan update

My sweetheart is doing so well. He is a completely different little boy. He is chatting up a storm now and so helpful. The teacher told me on Friday that he has turned a corner in class. He is playing well with other students (he was always a loner before) and enjoying group time. He really struggled with sitting through group time before, but now, he is actually enjoying it! He joins in during pretend time now. He is singing the alphabet song and learning his letters. It seems that the new teaching plan and additional speech therapy is really helping him. I'm just so proud. He loves his school so much. He comes running out every day "Mom! I missed you! I love you!". The improvement is just awesome. I honestly think that when this kid is in Kindergarten, you won't know he struggled at first. My sweet boy is growing up so fast!

Day 8- A picture I find funny

I love this picture of Lucy. It cracks me up! This was the day we brought her home from the breeder. Poor Lucy was the runt of the litter and just a tiny 2.8 lbs. Her little body and alien-looking eyes in this picture make me laugh.

Day 7- My most prized possession(s)

My scrapbooks. If the house were on fire, I would get these first (after my babies and my dog obviously). They chronicle my life from my childhood, to high school, to college, to marriage, to my kids. Not pictured are the three albums I am currently working on.

Day 6

The person that you would like to trade places with for one day. Mine is Oprah. I would love to have that kind of power and money for one day!

Day 5- My favorite memory

In the ocean. In Hawaii. On my honeymoon. Note the white sand, the calm waters, and no people around. Ahhhhhh.....

Kai and his ears

Kai has his fourth ear infection in two months. :( I've never had to deal with this before because Nathan never had any problems. I took Kai to the doctor on Tuesday to get another round of antibiotics. The doctor wants us to see an ENT specialist because he thinks that Kai's anatomy doesn't allow his ears to drain appropriately. So we have an appointment next week with the best ear guy in the city to see about Kai getting tubes in his ears. My spidey (mama) sense is telling me that something is definitely wrong and I hate seeing my little boy in pain. I'll update after the appointment next week.

In related Kai-bear news they heard a heart murmur at his last two appointments. When we go back for a well-child visit, they are going to check to see if it is still there. If so, we'll be getting an ECHO of his heart.

Day 4

A picture of your night. Well, my night involved making brownies and not much else, so here ya go!

Day 3- Photo from the cast of your favorite TV show

It is a toss up! I love Roseanne reruns.
And I'll always love Sex and the City.
My current favorite is Big Love though!

Day 2

Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been closest with the longest

I didn't get a chance to take a picture with my mom yesterday, so this is from Thanksgiving. She is an amazing lady and I'm lucky to have her in my life.

A photo of yourself. This is me, on a very typical mom-type night.

The 30 day photo challenge

I'm needing some blogging ideas, so I'm going to do the 30 day photo challenge! Day 1 challenge: A photo of yourself. I'll be back. :)

Letter to my one year old boys!

Dear Gavin-

Happy first birthday sweetheart!! This year has been a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs as we all adjusted to having twins. But I thank my lucky stars that you are here with us. Your sweet smile brightens my day, every day.

From 8lbs 5 oz to 22lbs. You are getting so big! You are a full-fledged toddler now. You walk all over the house and rarely crawl. You have a really wide stance and it is so cute to see you toddle down the hallway. You are so much more interactive with toys and other people! You love cars and trucks and pushing Nathan on the fire truck. You love balls and books. You love giving kisses! You are even kissing Kai now. It is so cute to see. You babble all the time and we are starting to hear words! You say "Dada" and "Mama". But sometimes you those mixed up.

You are finally starting to sleep a little better at night now. You sleep with Daddy still. Sometimes you cuddle up close to him and sometimes you like your own space. You wake up twice a night to nurse. During the day, you take one 2 hour nap. You nap with Kai on mommy in the rocking chair.

You are an eating champ! Your favorites include mashed potatoes, spaghetti, and waffles. If you don't like something, you let us know. You throw it off your high chair! In addition to food, you still nurse 6 times a day (about every 4 hours). Since it has been year now, I am going to start the weaning process. It is going to be much harder for you than Kai, because you still won't take a bottle! Although your sippy cup skills are improving. I'm going to try some milk in the cup to see if you do well with that.

I can't believe it has been a year since you were born. In some ways the year has been so difficult that it has seemed like ten years. And in some ways, it seems like just yesterday that I heard your first cry. I want you to know though, dear Gavy, that I love you. I love you so much my heart may burst from loving you. Happy birthday sweet boy.

Dear Kai,

Today is your first birthday!! We are having your birthday party tonight and I'm so excited for you to be surrounded by people who love you. This year has had its ups and downs but we made it through! I'm so happy to have you in my life Kai-bear.

From 7lbs to 22lbs, you have grown so much. You walk all the time and you almost run! Your little baby steps are so sweet and you can really get where you are going in a hurry now! You are talking more and more. You say "baba" for bottle (you get one bottle a night), "mama", and "dada". You also do your little screeches and screams that are too cute for words! You are so much more interactive. You love playing with toys now. Your favorites seem to be our pots and pans. You love to pretend like you are cooking with the pans and utensils. It is really sweet.

Sleep has gotten much better for you recently! We took you to the doctor and they thought that you had seasonal allergies. Your eyes always look red and watery and you are congested a lot. They prescribed some medicine to help you and it seems to be helping! You sleep so much better now. You wake up twice a night to nurse now. This is a vast improvement from 7-8 times! You still sleep right next to Mama, although you have started to crawl away and sleep on your own a little bit too. During the day, you take one 2 hour nap. You sleep with Gavin on Mama in the rocking chair.

You eat a lot of different foods! Your favorites seem to be bananas, pizza, and spaghetti. In addition to all that food, you still nurse 6 times a day. Although now that we made it to a year, I am going to start the weaning process. It will probably go pretty easy for you, because you don't mind bottles at all!

Sweet Kai, in so many ways, one year has flown by. Thank you for being such an amazing boy. Your laugh is enough to get me through the most difficult of days. I love you so much. Happy birthday to my wonderful baby boy!

In just two days time...

My babies will be 1. So many posts will happen around that time and I want to focus on them on their birthday.

But this post? This post is all about me.

I did it.

I've been nursing these babies for one year. I made it to my goal.

Take a look at this post. I wrote it at almost 2 months in.

In that post, I committed myself to one year of nursing and I did it.

I made it through the every hour feedings. The biting. The mastitis. Twice. The thrush. Twice. The D-MER for every tandem feeding. Day after day. It has been the hardest thing I have ever done. In the early months, I honestly did NOT know if I would make it through. Almost 8 hours of my day was spent nursing back then. Eight hours. Every day. That is a full-time (more than full-time) job. But I did it. I didn't give up. I gave my boys the very best for a year. I put my children before myself. I don't care if this post comes across as self-centered and narcissistic. I am so damn proud of myself right now. So damn proud.

I did it. And I continue to do it.

I will be starting the weaning process now. It will take several months I'm sure, because I can't just quit cold-turkey. I have to drop one feeding (they have six feedings a day now) a time. I don't feel guilty for starting to wean. I made it to my goal.

I feel amazing. I feel like superMOM.

New Year's resolutions

1. Finish my Couch to 5K program and run a 5K!

2. Lose 5 more lbs and maintain my weight loss.

3. Encourage healthy sleeping habits for the babies. (Which basically means....GET THEM TO SLEEP AT SOME POINT THIS YEAR!!)

4. Get caught up with scrapbooking. I am exactly a year behind because of the babies' arrival. I am planning on working on the books one day a week and I'm also going to attend scrapbooking workshops around town. I love going to those and now I can finally be away from the babies for several hours at a time.

5. Sometime this year, I will be going back to work! I want to get a great job that I enjoy going to.
