The pump....

can kiss my ass. There I said it.

I freaking hate that thing!!! I am trying, ever so hard, to pump some milk so that the boys can be fed by someone else. It would be nice to take a nap without having to wake up every hour to feed someone and it would be nice to be able to go get my hair done and get out of the house for more than 45 minutes at a time. But alas, yesterday I tried pumping (granted it was after feeding the boys) and I got 1/2 an ounce. Really?! Geez. At this rate, it will take me years to pump enough for two bottles! *sigh*

Edit: My sister rocks!! She offered some of her milk for the boys! She is an awesome pumper! Thanks Brooke! You are so sweet!

Kick-Ass Baby Products- Week 2

So up this week is a new Kick-Ass baby product that I have personally used over a gazillion times since having the twins. This products (while simple) has really brought cloth diapering back from the dead. It makes using prefold cloth diapers quick, easy, and painless! No more poking yourself with pins! Whenever I tell people that I use cloth diapers (which happens a lot because lots of people ask if buying diapers for the twins is bankrupting us) they always remark about pins, etc. I really don't think that people realize how far cloth diapers have come! But that is a different post. Anyway, this week's Kick-Ass baby product is the Snappi!

It is such a simple, genius product. 3 bucks buys you a diaper fastener that is super easy and pain free for you and baby. You can get these at any of the million cloth diaper online shops and they come in 2 sizes; baby and toddler.

This is just so sick

I can't even fathom why people would be even remotely ok with this.

Apparently there is a new company out there with an exciting new anti-aging product on the market. This treatment, called Vavelta, has been developed by the British biomedical company Intercytex. It involves a series of injections to the face to reduce skin marks and wrinkles. It is made from the foreskins of circumcised babies. However, people in Britain don't circumcise their babies so they get their supply from the US.

There just aren't enough words. I am biting back the bile that is rising in my throat.

See the whole story here.

"I've always wanted twins!"

I have heard this countless times since having our babies. People in public love to ogle over the boys and talk about twins in general. Most of the time people are pretty nice, asking polite questions and exclaiming over their cuteness (and how could they not?!). However, there are some gems out there determined to make me look at them in horror.

Just a few of these to give you a giggle:

"Are they twins?!!" --Um, no. One is several years older, he is just really small for his age.

"Are they natural?" --What on Earth does that mean?! Are they fake? Um no.

"Two girls, right?" --Hmmm...well considering that they are both dressed in head to toe blue...

"Are they identical?" --Are you looking at them? Maybe I am the only one who can see the differences in them, but they are definitely not identical.

"Do twins run in your family?" --"Nope, just lucky" is always my reply. This one doesn't really bother me so much. I understand the curosity.

"When did they take them?" --I don't even know how to respond to this one. Who are they and where are they taking my babies? I am assuming this means when did doctors decide to do a c-section. To this one I proudly reply "They were born at home on their due date!" I love to watch the mouths drop. It's fun to fly my freak flag.

"I've always wanted twins!" --What person, in their right mind, hopes for twins? I mean really. Do they just not realize the sheer amount of work that it takes to have these babies? My body is wrecked, I haven't slept in months, my boobs are out-of-control, and neither one of them gets the attention that he deserves.

"You sure do have your hands full." Yep. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Kick-Ass baby products

So Brandon and I have been discussing this for a long time. Parents really go into this whole baby thing pretty blind. They have an absolutely overwhelming number of websites out there saying things like "YOU NEED THIS!", "BUY THIS FOR YOUR BABY!", "YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THIS!!". And so on...

The thing is, most of these websites are out for your money. They really don't care whether or not you waste your money on crap you don't need or crap that is going to break in two seconds. They just want cash and to exploit the fact that new parents are vulnerable.
The difference is that Brandon and I don't want your money! We just want parents out there to know what stuff works and what stuff doesn't. We have been around the block with all sorts of baby products out there and we want to impart this knowledge unto future mamas and papas.

So every Sunday, I will be discussing a new Kick-Ass baby product that I recommend.

So up first is a Kick-Ass sippy cup. I am talking about the KING of sippy cups. You know how these things work. Every cup in the store "claims" that theirs doesn't leak, is unbreakable, and is all-around the greatest sippy ever. Most are lying. Trust me on this folks. I have been through countless cups. I don't even want to guess at how much money we have spent on crap cups that leak within the first five minutes or shatter to pieces after getting dropped.

So one crazy Saturday, I decided to shell out the 12 bucks for a Thermos Brand Foogo sippy cup. This thing is amazing!! We have had two of these cups for almost a year now and they still don't leak!! They get dropped and thrown about 200 times a day and it doesn't have a crack in it. It keeps the water cold for hours and it is so easy to clean. Plus it is BPA free so it is super safe for your kids. It is well worth the extra money. You can buy these pretty much anywhere. Target, Wal-Mart, Babies R Us, etc. Lots of online places sell them too.
So there you have it. An easy, simple review of a cup that isn't a waste of your cash. What more could you ask for??!!

On being Mandie...

I haven't been Mandie in a really long time. It is hard to balance one's self and motherhood at the same time. Over these past three years, I have really transitioned into becoming Mama and lost sight of myself in the process. I think that this happens to all mothers, especially mothers of more than one child. Mothers of multiples have an even harder time trying to balance to two lives. Yesterday, for example, I got exactly 20 minutes of time where I didn't have a baby or two on me. That time was spent putting laundry in the washer and getting lunch together.

All this lack of time has really caused me to wonder whether or not there are more children in our future. I miss being able to be a wife to my husband. I miss being able to paint my toenails, take a bath, read a book in peace, etc. Not that I don't love being a mother, but sometimes you just gotta be you, ya know?

So we are really searching our hearts to decide if we want more children. I'll admit that I would LOVE to have a daughter someday, but can I possibly be an effective and nuturing mother to four children? Perhaps I should just focus on the three sons that I have.

Either way, we are done for quite some time. I need some space to take care of my poor body and spirit. :) And working on a career would be nice too.

Letters to my sons...April 12th

Dear Gavin,

Today you are 3 months old! I can't believe that 3 months have past since your birth! You weigh around 13.5lbs now and are 24.5 inches long.

You are such a smiley and happy boy. You love to laugh and take in the world around you. You adore Nathan. Every time he gets near you, you just light up! You are a drooling machine now and you are constantly chewing on your fists. You have discovered that your hands are fun to look at and it is so sweet to watch you learning. Your eyes are so blue. It is amazing to me that we have a blue-eyed son. I have to wonder if they will stay that way or if they will change to brown. Your hair is so light too. It will be so fun to watch you change and grow. You take about 4 naps a day. Your favorite place to nap is on Daddy. You love it when he rocks you in the chair. You nurse every 2 hours or so. You have taken a liking to the right side and you often look up at me while you nurse. I have to remind you that you can't smile at Mama and nurse at the same time. Nighttime is still a little crazy around here. You and I go to bed first around 8pm. I nurse you to sleep and then I call Daddy to come in with Nathan and Kai. Daddy takes you and lets you sleep near him while I nurse Kai to sleep. You sleep for one 4 hour stretch at night and then you are up every two hours after that. When you wake up, Daddy hands you to me and then I nurse you back to sleep. Hopefully we can work on sleeping longer stretches soon.

Three months ago, I held you for the first time. I cried tears of joy when you arrived. These past months have gone by so quickly. I love you so much.

Always,

Mama

----------------------------------------

Dear Kai,

You are three months old today, sweet boy! It is hard to believe how quickly these past months have gone. Pretty soon, you will be walking all around here just like Nathan.

You weigh around 13.5lbs now and are 24 inches long. You are more chunky than Gavin. I think it is because you are a big comfort nurser. You love nursing. Not an hour goes by without you acting like you are starving! :) You aren't really the most gentle of nursers either. You have a tendency to thrash around a lot. Hopefully that is just a phase. You like to talk to us all the time. You are quick to let us know when you are unhappy and happy! You smile all the time now. We have discovered that you love to be outside. You can be crying and as soon as we take you out to the porch swing, you quiet right down and look around. You have this way of studying the world around you that is so sweet. Daddy calls you his little "Meerkat" because the faces you make while turning your head reminds him of meerkats. It is a sweet nickname, I think. I still call you my Kai-bear. You are a mama's boy. You love sleeping next to me although lately you will go to Daddy every once and awhile.

So three months have passed. You grow and change every day. We are looking forward to all the changes yet to come. I love you so much.

Always,

Mama
