20 weeks

Halfway there today! I can't believe that I am considered 5 months pregnant now.

How I am feeling: Well, to be honest, it hit me last night that these babies will be coming in four months. 4 months!! I feel like this pregnancy is going way too fast for me. I am just not ready. After realizing last night that I only have 4 months left, I started to feel such fear. :( I'm really scared about how the births will go. I am really scared of my relationship with Nathan changing forever. I am scared about how much my life will change after they arrive. I really don't want to go back to waking up every hour at night and the thought of taking care of three kids is enough to make me break out into a cold sweat. So, those are really the only thoughts I have today as I hit the halfway point. I am also trying to come to terms with the fact that I will never have a daughter. I guess I am just mourning that loss right now too. Not that I am not excited about having two more boys, I am just a little sad that we will never have the chance to parent a daughter.

What the babies are up to: Each baby's delicate skin is protected with a greasy, cheese-like coating called vernix caseosa. By now each baby may be about 6 1/3 inches (160 millimeters) long from crown to rump and weigh more than 11 ounces (320 grams).

We are having...

TWO beautiful, healthy, SONS!!!!! We are thrilled! I am just beyond excited to be the mama of three sons! What a wonderful feeling. They are looking great. Both measuring a week ahead and already fighting with each other. Baby A kept kicking Baby B in the face! It was really cute. So, mama was right all along! Two more beautiful boys!!

I will add pictures tomorrow!!!

19 weeks!

How I am feeling: I am a jumble of nerves today! Our ultrasound is scheduled for today at 4:30. I am so anxious. I am just hoping that everything looks healthy with both babies. I am really hoping that they both look like little piglets in there! We really want them to be good sized babies. :) I am also very excited to find out the genders. I hope they give us a little peek! Nathan was not shy at all during our ultrasound with him. He showed us right away that he was a boy! Hopefully these babies will be just like their big brother. In other news, the skin on my belly is really starting to itch. I am keeping it covered in lotion though. That is pretty much all that is new right now. I can't hardly think about anything else other than this ultrasound! I will update the blog when we get back tonight!

What the babies are up to: Nineteen weeks into pregnancy, or 17 weeks after conception, the babies hearing continues to improve. He or she may pick up my voice in conversations — although it's probably hard to hear clearly through the amniotic fluid and protective paste covering their ears. For girls, the uterus and vagina may be forming this week.

Letter to my 27 month old boy...

Dear Nathan,

You may have noticed that I took a break in writing you letters. I decided to write you letters every month for the first two years and then every three months during the next two years.

Since your two year letter, you have really grown and changed. You were diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder. Basically this means that you have difficulties getting information from your five senses. This is the cause of your picky eating, delay in speech, aggressive nature, and unusual bursts of energy. We are now working with an occupational therapist, developmental therapist, and speech therapist. We are very slowly seeing improvements. Your speech is increasing each day and we are very hopeful that things will continue to get better.

We have recently started to work on potty learning! We just started this past weekend and so far we are doing pretty well. You still aren't telling us when you have to go, but you are getting used to the potty and go when we put you on it. I have a feeling it will take us awhile to work through this stage because of the speech delay. But Mama and Daddy are so proud of you! You get so excited when you go potty!

Because we love you so much, we are really having a hard time with discipline. We have incorporated "time outs" into our day and it does work fairly well. We understand that you are just at that age where you like testing our limits.

Some cute new things that you are doing is baby play! We got you a baby doll and you love it! You love to lay the baby down for "night night". We bought you this doll so that you would get used to the idea of having babies around! Because you are going to be a big brother to 2 little babies soon! Mama's belly is growing every day and you love to kiss the babies. I don't think that you understand that there are actually babies in there, but that will come with time.

And so sweet boy, summer is almost over and we are looking forward to fall. You are big and strong. You are happy and playful. You love to jump and play and give kisses and high fives. You love pointing to pictures of yourself and saying "baby". You love tickle fights with Daddy. You love wrestling with Lucy. You love Grandma and your uncles. You are such a fun and energetic boy. Mama's little problem-solver, football player in-training, and cuddlebug. I just love you so much.

Some of your words:
Spongebob :)

As you can see, speech therapy has really helped you so far!

18 weeks

18 weeks today! Almost halfway there!

How I am feeling: 100 times better than I was last week. I truly think that chiropractors are gifts from the Gods. I felt instant relief after seeing her and continue to sleep better. It has been a pretty depressing week, on the other hand though. My birthday was on Saturday and it made me realize how few people I have in my life. Sad and pathetic, right? Considering that I don't have a real relationship with half of my family and the other half is made up of forgetful brothers, I didn't get too many phone calls. I am also realizing that I just don't have many good friends in my life. Gosh, just typing that out sounds so pathetic. I have found that since college, I have a really hard time making friends. Being a stay-at-home mom makes it hard to meet people. I don't know, it just really made me sad. I am going to end here, because I could go on for days about this.

What the babies are up to: Eighteen weeks into pregnancy, or 16 weeks after conception, the babies' ears begin to stand out on the sides of their heads. As the nerve endings from each babies' brain "hook up" to the ears, he or she may hear my heart beating, my stomach rumbling or blood moving through the umbilical cord. They may even be startled by loud noises.

17 weeks

Updated to add picture: On my birthday at 17 weeks 4 days.
Moving right along...

How I am feeling: Miserable. I haven't felt this much pain in a very long time. At night, I am unable to sleep. As I have mentioned here many times, I have had insomnia for years, but this is more physical. The thing is I can't lie on my back (I am usually a back sleeper) because of the babies. So I have been trying to lie on my side. However, within one or two minutes (seriously it is that short) both of my arms and both of my legs go completely numb and tingle. It doesn't matter which side I am lying on, it happens to both arms and both legs. I have tried propping with pillows, tried moving to a different mattress (our guest room), and nothing is helping. Because of the numbness (it is painful) it has been taking me hours to fall asleep. Finally I just pass out from sheer exhaustion. Basically I am really worried about this because the numbness can't be a good thing. Last night was the worst. Even just reclining in our chair caused almost total body numbness and it kept moving up along the side of my face and lips. Awful. I emailed my midwife about it and she is thinking that I may have a pinched nerve. Even just sitting here right now, my shoulders are numb and tingling. Anyway, my midwife is speaking to her chiropractor on my behalf. I am willing to do just about anything to make this pain stop.

What the babies are up to: Each baby is now covered in a downy layer of lanugo. The skin is still very thin, but brown fat is slowly being deposited. Other than that, they are just growing and making my belly expand by the day.
