Jury Duty

Well, I was just waiting for something like this to happen! I got a jury summons today. :( Normally, I would be thrilled to sit on a jury. I find the whole legal process fascinating. However, now is quite possibly the worst time in my life to get this little piece of mail. I am the primary caregiver to 3 kids and exclusively nursing twins! I sent in a request for summons deferral. Hopefully they accept it.

Around here they don't let anyone off of Jury Duty! A couple years ago my husband got a summons and we are self employed and without him (or I), the business can't operate. Our livelihood was as stake and it still didn't matter! Luckily it only lasted a few days, but I couldn't imagine if it would've taken weeks, or months!

Mandie, I had jury duty when W was less than 6 months old. When you get there, they ask if anyone has any objections for being on a jury (convicted criminal, involved in a case, primary caretaker of an elederly family member or children). I told them that I was a stay at home mom and that i dont have childcare. I was excused immediately. I had to show up to the date and time I was called for, but it took less than an hour to get back in my car and head home to Miss W :)

I can't imagine they would not excuse you as a breastfeeding mother. To do otherwise would be ridiculous. Please let us know . . .
